His mountain lion chose Ava as his mate years ago, and he’ll do whatever it takes to prove to Ava that he loves her and wants her back in his life—and this time, he’ll never let her go.
Content warning: This sexy shapeshifter novelette includes a happily-ever-after as well as explicit love scenes and naughty language. It is intended for adults.
Writing short stories and novellas is an artform in and of itself. In many ways, it’s harder than writing a 70,000 word novel. The storytelling has to be tighter, everything more succinct without feeling rushed. As with the first novella in this series, Fierce Wanderer, this author pulls it off beautifully.
Jude and Ava’s story is a typical second chance romance, but with a paranormal twist. I like the trope, I liked the characters. The writing is good, the pacing flawless. The story has obviously been professionally edited as well, which is always a huge plus for me. (I’m not a grammar Nazi by any means, but I can tell the difference between a professionally edited novel and one that’s been “glanced at” by the author’s mother/sister/bestie. This book is happily the former.)
If I were to nitpick, I would mention that I didn’t especially care for the reason Jude left Ava when they were younger. I won’t spoil anything, but I thought it was a little lackluster (and weak). I thought it maybe could’ve been explained a little better.
But other than that minor nitpick, I highly recommend the story, and its predecessor. The story can stand alone, but for full enjoyment, I recommend starting with book 1.
Full disclosure: I was offered a free copy in exchange for an honest review, but I didn’t take it. I went ahead and downloaded my copy from Kindle Unlimited. (What can I say? I was too lazy to find the cable that allows me to transfer mobi files from my computer to my Kindle, and I was fairly certain I’d like the book, and wanted the author to get credit for the download.)
