it feels like he’s right there with her. He’s quickly becoming her best friend… and maybe more?
Alexa can’t ignore how her heart beats wildly when she thinks about Nat, but she’s also determined to stick to her original plan: staying single until she’s absolutely sure that a man would be right for her. When the opportunity arises for Alexa to meet Nat in person, though, she’s curious to find out if her feelings change—just in time for a much improved Jonathan to show up at her door, offering her what she’s wanted from the start.
I predicted after reading If You Run that this author’s future books would only get better and better. Well, guess what? I was right.
This was a nice, flowing, quick read that featured a realistic friends-to-lovers romance. The hero and heroine had sweet, funny conversations that felt authentic. And while the book does contain sex, it’s down-played in such a way that even readers of clean romances could enjoy this one, which is rare in the contemporary and new adult romance categories.
So why 4 stars instead of 5? The blurb hints at a love triangle, and there isn’t one. I personally don’t like love triangles, so I didn’t miss it. I just think the blurb makes it sound like Jonathan is an impediment to Alexa and Nat’s relationship, and he’s totally not. In fact, the only impediment to their relationship is Alexa’s misguided notion of what she’s looking for in a man. In fact, her ideas on this are SO misguided that I was a little annoyed with her immaturity, and thusly deducted one star from my overall rating. In the end, there really was no good reason why these two shouldn’t be together.
But, all in all, this is a sweet romance that fans of the contemporary and new adult categories can enjoy.
Full disclosure: the author generously offered a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review, but I didn’t take it. I downloaded via Kindle Unlimited. Why? Because here at Knockin' Books we go out of our way to support indie authors. It's just how we roll, people.
